Common Language: Friendship

One of the best ways for students to learn a new language is to have authentic conversations. Ms. Foster, bilingual Pre-K teacher at Hewitt Elementary, saw a need for this and had a great idea to collaborate with the Spanish students at Midway High School.  Mrs. Landon, Midway High School Spanish teacher, was excited about the opportunity for her AP students.  This is the second year in a row that their two classes have practiced their second language with each other.  They were able to use webcams to communicate without leaving their classrooms. Each time they talk about subjects that they are studying and even share their projects with each other.   They plan to use the iPads in the future to communicate through apps such as Facetime and Polycom.  Mrs. Landon’s high school students are also collaborating with Mrs. Martinez, Mrs. Pena, Mrs. Lopez, and Mr. Herrera’s bilingual classes at Hewitt Elementary.
