Telling a Story… with Legos
When Spring Valley ESL teacher, Peggy Pritchett, attended last year’s MISD iPlayground Summer Staff Development, Legos® were used as she learned about stop motion video. This inspired her to see what other possible uses there were for Legos® and literacy. What she discovered was the Lego® Story Visualizer Software and App. The materials were advertised as a support for acquisition of reading, writing, speaking and listening – all the domains she covers when working with her ELLs! Using her Title III grant money, she purchased the StoryStarter set. The students love visualizing their stories and building a model with Legos®. The StoryVisualizer App allows the students to add a digital picture to a background that supports their story. When all the story elements are in place they add their story and share with their teacher and friends. Below, view the students in action.
