Algebra Takes on Angry Birds

Midway High School’s Algebra 1 teacher, Coach Davisson, utilizes what kids love best…..gaming. To truly engage students you have to tap into what motivates them the most, and integrate it into a lesson. He used Angry Birds to assist students in understanding quadratic equations. After playing a session in Angry Birds, the students acquired a snap shot of the bird’s range of motion from point A to point B and uploaded it into Educreations. In this screen casting app, the students were able to transform their picture into an engaging study tool by labeling and recording significant elements of the quadratic formula.
